2023-2024 Dance Season Schedule & Class Descriptions

Please note that the ages listed below are a loose guideline; students may test up or down based on their skill level.


My Grown Up & Me: 

Ages 2-3 years old who need comfort of adult to dance with them

Class description: 

My Grown-Up & Me is specially designed for mini movers; it is a perfect way to get you and your little one up and dancing! In this class, you and your little mover will move and groove to dance-along songs, learn basic dance terminology, work on various gross motor skills, move creatively and build a sense of community all while having fun! This class is perfect for first time dancers who still need the comfort of an adult dancing with them. 

Creative Movement:

Ages 3-5 year olds, who are comfortable dancing without an adult with them

Class description: 

Creative movement is designed for dancers aged 3-5 who are ready to enjoy dance class without a grown-up dancing with them. The class will include an introduction to ballet, strengthen gross motor movement and is infused with imagination and play. Dancers can look forward to interacting with props(scarves, egg shakers, bean bags), dancing to fun songs. 

Intro to Ballet:

Ages 5-8

Class description:

A classical beginner ballet class for dancers who are new to dance and ready for a more structured class. Dancers will learn the proper etiquette for a ballet class: how to stand at the barre, spatial awareness, etc. Dancers will work on balance, focus, memorizations, listening comprehension and the foundations of ballet. 


Ballet 1a:

Ages 5-8

Class description:

A classical beginner ballet class for dancers who have “graduated” from creative movement and/or have the basic understanding of ballet. Dancers will work on barre, across the floor and center floor combinations as well stretch and coordination exercises. 


Ballet 1b:

Ages 5-8

Class description:

A classical ballet class for dancers who have taken ballet previously and know and understand the foundation of ballet. Dancers will work on barre, across the floor and center floor combinations as well stretch and coordination exercises. 

Ballet 2a:

Ages 9 and up

Class description:

A classical beginner ballet class for dancers who are new to ballet. Dancers will learn the foundation of ballet technique. Dancers will work on barre, across the floor and center floor combinations as well stretch and coordination exercises. 

Ballet 2b:

Ages 9 and up

Class description:

Classical ballet class for dancers who have taken ballet previously and know and understand the foundation of ballet. Dancers will work on barre, across the floor and center floor combinations as well stretch and coordination exercises. 

Ballet 3:

Class description:

Classical ballet class for dancers who have taken ballet previously and have a great understanding of ballet; please note this is our highest ballet class. Dancers will work on barre, across the floor and center floor combinations as well stretch and coordination exercises. Dancers must test into this class via evaluation from instructors. 

Pre-Pointe:

Ages 8 & up

Pre requisites:

•Dancers must take 1 ballet class a week in addition to pre-pointe class. 

Class description:

This class is a great way to gain strength and flexibility in the ankles and feet which is important for injury prevention, as well as beautiful strong, pointed  feet. Pre-pointe can be taken by students who strive to be en pointe or who simply just want to strengthen increase flexibility in their feet

Pointe:

Ages 11 and up

Pre requisites:

•Dancers must take 2 ballet classes a week in addition to pointe class. 

•Dancers must have successfully completed pre-pointe

Class description:

A classical ballet pointe class for dancers who are serious about ballet and have a strong understanding of the technique. Dancers will work on barre, across the floor and center floor combinations and skills, as well as ankle strengthening activities. Dancers must test into this class via evaluation from instructors.

Acro 1a

Ages 3-6

Class description:

This class is geared towards students who are new to acrobatics. Acro 1a consists of strengthening and conditioning dancer’s muscles and gaining coordination to perform skills such as rolls, bridges, cartwheels, etc. This class gives students the confidence to be upside down and learn tricky skills. 

Acro 1b

Ages 6-8

Class description:

This class is geared towards students with an understanding of acrobatics. Acro 1b consists of strengthening and conditioning dancer’s muscles and gaining coordination to perform skills such as rolls, bridges, cartwheels, handstands, etc. This class gives students the confidence to be upside down and learn tricky skills. 


Acro 2a

Ages 8 & up

Pre requisites:

•Dancers must take 1 ballet class a week in addition to acro class. 

Class description:

This class is geared towards students who are new to acrobatics. Acro 2a consists of strengthening and conditioning dancer’s muscles and gaining coordination to perform skills such as rolls, bridges, cartwheels, handstands, etc. This class gives students the confidence to be upside down and learn tricky skills. 

Acro 2b

Ages 8 & up

Pre requisites:

•Dancers must take 1 ballet class a week in addition to acro class. 

Class description:

This class is geared towards students with an understanding of acrobatics. Acro 2b consists of strengthening and conditioning dancer’s muscles and gaining coordination to perform skills such as rolls, bridges, cartwheels, handstands, walkovers, etc. This class gives students the confidence to be upside down and learn tricky skills. 

Acro 3

Ages 8 & up

Pre requisites:

•Dancers must take 1 ballet class a week in addition to acro class. 

Class description:

This class is geared towards students with a strong understanding of acrobatics. Acro 3 consists of strengthening and conditioning dancer’s muscles to perform advanced skills such as backhandsprings, aerials, walkovers , variations, etc. Please note that this is our highest level of acro; dancers must test into this class via evaluation from instructors. 

Hip-Hop 1a

Ages: 4-6

Class description:

This class is geared towards young beginners ages 4-6; students will gain confidence, a sense of rhythm and self-awareness through movement.

This fun, energetic hip-hop class focuses on Ms. Jae’s 3 P’s: Personality, Performance, and Pose! The objective of this class is for students to express who they are using hip-hop movement including some House dance foundation, free styling, and choreography. Students also engage in workouts to prepare their bodies for class.

Hip-Hop 1b

Ages 6 & up

Class description:

This class is geared towards students who have “graduated” from hip-hop 1a and/or have taken hip hop before. This fun, energetic class continues to focus on Ms. Jae’s 3 P’s: Personality, Performance, and Pose! The objective of this class is for students to express who they are using hip-hop movement including some House dance foundation, free styling, and choreography. Students also engage in workouts to prepare their bodies for class.

Hip-Hop 2

Class description:

This class is for students who have taken hip-hop and have a strong understanding of the technique; please note that this is our highest level of hip-hop. This fun, energetic class continues to focus on Ms. Jae’s 3 P’s: Personality, Performance, and Pose! The objective of this class is for students to express who they are using hip-hop movement including some House dance foundation, free styling, and choreography. Students also engage in workouts to prepare their bodies for class.


Jazz 1a

Class description:

Jazz is a fun, high-energy dance form that develops technique, rhythm and style while building strength, flexibility and body awareness. It focuses on clean lines, turns, and jumps. Jazz dance also encourages individual expression and the development of personal style. In Jazz 1A, the focus will be on traditional jazz steps (jazz squares, pivot turns, ball change, jazz slides, etc) in addition to pirouettes and basic leaps. 

Jazz 1b

Class description:

Jazz is a fun, high-energy dance form that develops technique, rhythm and style while building strength, flexibility and body awareness. It focuses on clean lines, turns, and jumps. Jazz dance also encourages individual expression and the development of personal style. In Jazz 1B, the focus will be on traditional jazz steps (jazz squares, pivot turns, ball change, jazz slides, etc), in addition to learning complex combinations and turns/leap progressions.

Contemporary

Ages 8 & up

Class description:

An immersive class that challenges students to blend technique, artistry, and strength. Contemporary is an expressive style of dance that pulls from and combines genres such as ballet, modern, lyrical, jazz and more. Students will enhance their understanding of different rhythmic qualities through phrase work and improvisational practices.

Horton

Ages 7 & up

Class description:

Horton Technique is a form of modern dance created by Lester Horton that emphasizes the full body and works on flexibility, strength, coordination, spatial awareness and more. Dancers will enjoy learning the history behind Horton technique as new moves are introduced. 

Tapping Tots

Ages 3-6

Class description:

In this class, dancers will learn the foundation of movement, rhythm, and the basics of tap dance in a fun and creative way! Dancers will enjoy dancing with props (scarves, egg shakers, bean bags) and dancing to fun songs

Tap 1

Ages 7 & up

Class description:

In this class, dancers will learn the foundation of tap dance, its history, rhythm, and more! Timing and coordination are emphasized in this class as students work on center and across the floor combinations. 

Leaps & Turns

Ages 7 & up  

Pre requisites:

•Dancers must take 1 ballet, jazz or Horton class a week in addition to turns & leaps . 

•Dancers must have 1 year of prior training in ballet, Horton or jazz. 

Class description:

 A heavily technique focused class that utilizes exercises to improve strength and flexibility. Students will gain consistency by working in progressive phrasing that concentrates on proper placement and execution for both turns and leaps. Please note that this is a technique based class and does not perform in our annual recital.

Performance Company

Ages 6 & up  

Pre requisites:

•Dancers must take 2 ballet classes, 1 jazz class, 1 Horton class, 1 hip-hop class, 1 acro class a week and company rehearsal. 

•Dancers must have 2 years of prior dance training 

Class description:

Our audition only performance company is for dancers ages 6 and up who are ready to take their performance quality to the next level. These dancers must take all required classes, Saturday, Company, class, extra rehearsals, etc. These dancers will compete during competition season, perform at sporting events such as Sixers games, as well as perform at private, public and community events. Dancers must be dedicated, respectful, have a positive attitude and be fully committed to furthering their technique and artistry.
